Should You Have A Business Website?
We are in the year 2022 and technology is advancing at such a rapid pace it is difficult to keep up with many things. In the past 5 years we have seen innovation like no other time period in history. From electric cars to cryptocurrency, AI and other technological advancements, it is an exciting time to be a part of. With all of these things going on, you may still ask yourself, why do I or my business need a website? Chances are if you found this article you may have been doing ok without one and for one reason or another something made you curious enough to search about the reasons you need a business website. Fortunately we will keep this short and sweet. The reality is, you don’t need a website, but you are missing out on endless opportunities to generate business and service your current customers. There are plenty of businesses that do well by word of mouth but that isn’t always a sustainable business model. Without going into statistics a lot of people use their phones and tablets or PCs and want the ease of finding something quickly. Gone are the days of the good ol’ phone book. Services like Yelp, Google Maps and other directory services have made it easy for consumers to search for what they need and get instant results. Asking Siri for directions or the nearest restaurant is also very easy. The truth is more people are using the internet to find businesses and based on reviews, even determine, if they are a reputable company to do business with.
By not having a website you are essentially doing your potential customers and existing customers a disservice and rightfully losing that business to another company who is willing to invest the resources to allow customers and prospects to reach them with ease, via the internet- through their own website, or a business page such as Google My Business. Can you imagine if companies like Walmart, BestBuy and other big retailers failed to create a website, they would have been crushed by Amazon. Luckily many of these companies invested the time and resources and evolved with the internet. This innovation has led to a lot of businesses going under and new ones being built. Just look at all the new services out there such as Uber, Uber Eats, Amazon, Instacart. Who would have ever thought there would be an App to replace Tax Drivers or one who would let someone shop for your groceries. Innovation, Innovation, Innovation. You either evolve and grow with technology or risk losing it all to someone who decided to do it better. I bet Blockbuster wishes they had come up with Redbox first, and even that seems to be losing its popularity recently since a lot of companies are offering online streaming or the ability to rent from home.
